20th Tactical AF Base

Transferred to 20th Tactical Airbase, 2nd Air Division, in early 1972, I was assigned Chief of Political Education Office until December 1973. I flew dozens of combat sorties on A-37 with 534th Squadron providing air support to 23rd Infantry Division.

Phan Rang was home to the US 7th Air Force 315th Air Wing before being transferred to the RVN Air Force in 1972

534th Squadron (Kim Nguu) is the first Jet Fighter unit of 92nd Tactical Wing. The other 2 fighter squadrons are 524th (Thien Loi) and 548th (Than Ung). They provided air support to the 2nd Tactical Zone. 

Each A-37 can carry two 500 lb bombs and four 250 lb bombs under its wings and a 6-barrel machine gun at the nose. In the pilot seat (half hidden) is Captain Duong Thieu Chi

92nd Wing was under command of Colonel Le Van Thao, 534th under Lt. Col. Nguyen Van Thi, 524th under Lt. Col. Su Ngoc Ca, 548th under Lt. Col. Tran Manh Khoi. The base commander is Colonel Nguyen Van Ba
